BIO

Femke Vindevogel, °1978 Ghent, Belgium, is a contemporary artist and writer/poet from Jabbeke. She works mainly with acrylic and colored pencil and paints as she writes: from the perspective of a detached observer, inspired by the small moments of beauty in everyday life and always with a dash of humor. In her writing and visual work, Vindevogel likes to highlight things that others do not notice.

Vindevogel studied Fine Arts at Sint-Lucas in Ghent and Painting at the Academy of Ghent from 1995 to 2007. Since 2008 she has worked near Bruges. The artist had her debut exhibition at Galerie Link in Ghent (Now De Bruycker Fine Art Gallery in Antwerp). Afterwards, Vindevogel had several exhibitions at De Bruycker.

Vindevogel's work first emerged as abstract frescoes on panel, experimenting with Japanese paper, pigments and organic material. Around 2010, Vindevogels investigated the possibilities of heavy body acrylic paint in combination with thin washes. She is currently working on a series that celebrates domestic objects. The series celebrates the beauty of worn objects and is at the same time a reflection of Femke's life as a writer and as a homebody. The chairs are painted on folded/used paper to emphasize the poetry of imperfection and in a small format, which contributes to the intimate character of her work.
